The importance of cybersecurity is now universally acknowledged, nevertheless, as per a research by Ponemon Institute (“2019 Cyber Resilient Organization”), 77% of the companies taking part to the study do not have a cybersecurity plan. Among those companies with a cybersecurity system working, 54% does not test it regularly, suffering enormously in case of cyber attack.
This happens even though studies highlight that, in those companies where the reaction to digital systems attack is prompt and effective (it takes an average of 30 days to recover from a cyber attack), final saving is around one million Dollars on the total data breach loss.
Difficulties in implementing cybersecurity systems impact on the compliance of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), into force since last year. Half of the companies taking part to the study still have to fulfill the regulation in total.
Despite the difficulty in adjusting to the new GDPR the study shows that companies recognize the close link between information security and privacy.
